On February 5th 2018, tragedy struck as Rose Spencer, an 18 year old from Guildford, was killed in a car accident on the A25 between Dorking and Guildford. She attended the same school as me, and for a time we were in the same forum together. When talking about her passing recently, I researched about the road in which the collision took place, and I was shocked to discover that this stretch of the A25 has had multiple collisions, multiple injuries and multiple fatalities, so much so that many have called into question if it is 'The most dangerous stretch of road in Surrey'. Despite this, no action seems to have been taken to make this stretch of road safer for future drivers.

Statistics from the online news publishing website "Get Surrey", show that between January 1, 2013 and December 31, 2017 there were 109 crashes on this stretch of the A25, spread across, including Gomshall, Abinger Hammer, Shere and Newlands Corner. 4 were fatal, 18 were considered 'serious' and 74 resulted in 'slight injury'. Furthermore, local residents have described how the age of the road means that it is simply not appropriate to set a speed limit of 50mph, and how numerous blind spots around the road result in an increase of collisions. 

Please sign this petition to alert the local council and our local M.Ps that something must be done to reduce the number of collisions, injuries and fatalities from this road. We cannot allow another life to be claimed due to an inappropriate speed limit being set. As such, urgent action is needed to reduce the speed limit and make the road safer for drivers who use the stretch of road in the future.
