Brentwood Borough Council are intending to close Brentwood Leisure Centre tomorrow, (28th October). The Leisure Centre is at the heart of our community and especially so in these difficult times. Children’s swimming lessons, community outreach programs, affordable fitness facilities and staff livelihoods will all be impacted.

The Brentwood Leisure Trust have been running the Leisure Centre, leasing it from the Brentwood Borough Council and have now run into financial difficulties. The Trustees and senior managers have been in good faith discussions with Brentwood Borough Council since July in trying to find a way to keep the services open and protect the jobs of all associated with the business. It is understood that the Council will now take direct control of the Leisure Centre and have stated that they are looking to make new arrangements and reopen asap.

This petition instead demands that the Brentwood Leisure Centre remains open, providing the people of Brentwood with essential day to day services, protecting the jobs of staff and service partners, whilst the Brentwood Borough Council organises a long term future for Brentwood Leisure Centre.
