Dear Supporter,
It has been 2 years since we started our campaign (now with over 352,000 supporters) urging Aldi to stop allowing gestation crates in its supply chain.
Although Aldi updated their animal welfare policy in 2019 to tell their suppliers they "expect" them to transition away from crates, there's a big difference between an expectation and a commitment.
What we are asking of Aldi is to commit to a minimal step in the more humane treatment of the mother pigs they profit from. We simply want these animals to be able to stretch, turn around, and be able to walk a few steps.
Instead of engaging in real dialog and keeping us informed of any steps forward, Aldi tells us meaningless things like it 'doesn't raise its own animals'.
Now more than ever it is important that you keep calling Aldi's Customer Service Line at (800) 325-7894 (option #4; option 1), Monday –Friday 9am–5pm EST.
When you call, if they ...
- say they don't raise their own animals, tell them you know they do not own any farms.
- refer you to their online animal welfare policy, tell them you know their policy says that they "expect" their suppliers to transition away from gestation crates. Ask them when they will "require" it.
- say they care about animal welfare, ask them why they won't commit to ending a practice that confines animals in crates so small the animals cannot even stretch their legs for months at a time.
If other retailers can commit to selling crate free pork, so can Aldi. Let's keep working together to end a practice that needlessly causes animals to suffer.
Thank for your support over the years,
Crate Free USA
P.S. Reminder: Aldi will not see the comments you make on the petition page. Please call them.
