Have supermarkets open for one hour in morning just for elderly to do their shopping

The Issue

We are currently living through unprecedented circumstances both nationally and internationally. Despite repeated assurances from the Government that our supply chain is strong, people are understandably feeling anxious and panicked and social media has been aflood with images of people stockpiling and panic buying.

Both medical and scientific experts have stated that older people are amongst the persons most at risk of developing serious and life threatening illnesses as a result of Coronavirus. Elderly people may have limited mobility, reduced access to shops and limited social contacts who can do their shopping on their behalf.

Many of us have seen the heartbreaking images of older persons standing in next to empty shopping aisles. Again, the widespread feeling of uncertainty and anxiety leading to stockpiling is understandable. However, our older generation are suffering and having to go without basic entities such as loo roll etc as a result.

To help protect and support our older generation please sign this petition to encourage supermarket chains to have a designated hour every morning where elderly persons can do their shopping before the rest of us. This will mean that  stocks are replenished and surfaces are disinfected to allow older people to do their shopping in a less physically and mentally stressful environment.

Most of us have or know of a vulnerable older person that we want to protect. Lets do our bit to help protect and support the older generation during these difficult times.
