Hello everyone. Spring has sprung, the birds are chirping, daffodils are blooming, and tulips are sprouting and will soon make us smile as they burst into color. Another kind of seed has been planted. The kind that if it blooms will take something away from us rather than give us beauty or delight. LUCHA has their building permit, and the construction of the antenna, while delayed, is an imminent threat and if built will harm many people's property values are will senselessly expose many of us to an endless supply of wireless signals and a new sources of radiation. LUCHA's house would get over $2000 per month for this, the decision making Executive Board members of LUCHA won't have to live with the negative effects, and the rest of us would be on our own! Lucha translates to fight and fight they have that this antenna will never be raised on the house of LUCHA. I received notice from the Alderman's office that he has decided to support us in opposing the antenna. It is also stated that he does not have the power to stop it. Still, he promised us that a Community Meeting will be held, and that we will have two weeks to get ready for it. Also, I delivered a set of Guidelines for the CM that the Alderman said will be honored. These guidelines limit participation to people who live within a 1000 foot radius. This will truly be a community meeting, where community is defined as people who live close the the LUCHA building. I am going to put a lot of effort into organizing this meeting, and when the date is announced I will publicize it immediately. What we need is to have a large body politic articulating our concerns in the meeting. Even if you don't want to speak, your presence is needed. Don't think for a second that I or a small group of people can take care of this for you. This is about demanding representative government and not allowing outside organizations and corporations such as T-Mobile and LUCHA to call the shots about our neighborhood. Folks, please join my wife & I as we fight for what is right for our neighborhood. Our vision of this neighborhood is greater than corporate oppression and dangerous industrial installations. Our property value is important to us, but as a preventative health measure we now shut off our cell phones, use earpieces, and unplug the router at night! Let's keep that control, of exposure, and keep this nasty hulking thing out of our lives and out of our 'hood. Let's work together to empower our Alderman with overwhelming (comm)unity against this installation. See you at the meeting!
