We are committed to having ABQ move forward with policy that supports sustainable energy and reduces the impact of climate change. We feel ABQ is ready to continue the trend of banning or taxing plastic bags like Santa Fe and Silver City, New Mexico; Seattle, San Francisco, Austin, and Boston.

We are proposing that the city of Albuquerque introduce an Ordinance that prohibits retailers from providing single-use carry out plastic bags. Local natural grocery stores already promote reusable bags and Kroger/Smiths committed last week to phasing plastic bags out of their stores. Santa Fe's current plastic bag ban and their efforts to provide reusable bags to families in need is an inspiring example.
