On Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2021, Premier Jason Kenney and the Honourable Jason Copping, Alberta Labour and Immigration announced the Critical Worker Benefit Program.

Veterinary practice workers including veterinary technologists were not included in the published list of private sector workers that will be eligible for this program

Many veterinary professionals have worked tirelessly throughout the entire global pandemic. Veterinary care was declared an essential service at the very beginning of the pandemic, and everyday veterinary professionals have continued to put their health at risk to provide essential medical care to pets. Most professionals in the industry make less than $25/hour. The veterinary industry deserves recognition, and professionals in the industry should be included in the list of individuals that qualify for CWB (Critical Worker Benefit).
