Protection of animals from cruelty is coded in sections 444-447 of Canada's Criminal Code.  The Code prohibits causing "unnecessary pain, suffering or injury to an animal or bird" and "causing damage or injury by wilful neglect."  Chuck wagon races at the Calgary Stampede caused six horse deaths in 2019, and many other injuries.  This has been occurring for decades with over 50 horse deaths.  We, the undersigned petitioners, demand a stop to this outrageous cruelty.
