The city is looking for a suitable place for a ‘safe injection site’. The area most often cited as being ideal for operating purposes is downtown Medicine Hat. Downtown is the heart of our city. We have spent a lot of time, effort and money for many years to make downtown Medicine Hat a family-friendly place to live, work, and play. Operating an injection site close to businesses, homes, parks or facilities that offer programming for children does not make sense; in fact, it can place the general public at risk. It becomes a safe zone where police cannot intervene.

In cities where ‘safe injection sites’ are located, neighbours, employees and business owners often experience:

• Dirty needles littered everywhere
• Increased public drug use
• Increased drug dealer presence
• Fear for personal safety 
• Loss of business 

We want our city to be a safe, thriving place for everyone.
Ask City Council to think outside the box and zone the injection site away from residential, recreational and business areas.
