We need more emails supporting the bill, as well as more pressure to change the consultation form! See more below!
Hi everyone!
As you all know, recently a bill was proposed that, if made into law, will restore ALL previous protections for our mountains! This bill would also require the provincial government to conduct meaningful consultation with all Albertans and all relevant organizations (Conservation groups, First Nations, etc).
This bill is now going to be sent to the Alberta Legislative Assembly to be debated. As such, what we need to do is let all MLAs know, regardless of their party affiliation, that Albertans support this bill!
As such, please copy the email template that can be found by clicking this link and send it to all relevant MLAs: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1qIfHiF3-1KfX0Q3ymKISSNo49PYapb5ejuibEu_bgVc/edit If we manage to convince enough MLAs to vote for this bill, all of our mountains will be protected once more!
Secondly, as stated in the last update, the Alberta Government created a survey to "consult" Albertans. Unfortunately, it is very biased toward open-pit mine development, and designed to discourage participation by Albertans who are not considered "experts".
To fix this, we need to pressure the provincial government into creating meaningful and unbiased consultation forms. To do this, we have informally partnered with CPAWs again. On their website, you can read some tips that will help us protect our mountains. The link is right here for the tips: https://ab4coalfreerockies.ca/blog/flipping-the-script-on-coal And for the survey: https://your.alberta.ca/coal-policy-engagement/survey_tools/coal-policy-survey
Finally, if you have not already done so, please use these email generators to continue pushing for the protection of our Rocky Mountains: https://act.leadnow.ca/tent-impact/?utm_source=leadnow&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=blast2021-03-26 and https://action.cpaws.org/page/77749/action/2
Thank you all for your help! Please share this update with everyone who is interested in protecting our Rocky Mountains! The more people who take steps to protect them, the more likely protection will become reality!
Until next time,
-Concerned Citizens of Alberta's Administrator
