Barbering is one of the oldest trades in the history of humanity. There are several Barbers who don't have recognition or proper education because they fear learning things that have no fundamentals in Barbering. We believe that barbers and Hairstylist are joint in a great industry but are very different in many ways. Barbers are required to learn long hair updos, colours, chemical texturizing, women's pin curls, fingerwaves and makeup design. These practices are not used in a typical barbershop environment and we believe more knowledge on shear and clipper techniques, straight razor shaves, beard grooming, infection control and safe work practices, are best suited to be taught in the classroom. We believe Barbers and Hairstylist can continue to share the same apprenticeship guidelines with some changes in the curriculum. By allowing the barbers to have designation in the first year of technical training it allows all barbers in the "hiding" to have proper education so the clients will have a safe place to get groomed by educated Barbers. If a barber wishes to continue to advance his or her education by wanting to learn chemical texturizing, colour theory, long hair updos and makeup design they can continue to second period and become a hairstylist. We believe this could be a win win for all. Industry, Government and above all our clients.
