Ban unnecessary plastic packaging for fruits and vegetables from supermarkets in The NL
¿Por qué es importante esta petición?
Plastic waste and its inceneration contributes to more than 400 million tonnes of Co2 being released into the atmosphere per year. More than 76% of all plastic ever made is now waste in landfills, incinerated or present in the environment, which has severe environmental impacts. Single use plastic packaging endangeres millions of marine and terrestrial animals, they either ingest it, get caught or get entangled. At least 267 marine species are affected by plastic pollution. This puts biodiversity and our natural ecosystems in danger.
Many Dutch supermarkets have promised to use 20% less plastic packaging material than in 2017, but this still results in huge amounts of unnecessary plastic packaging being used in supermarkets. If you look in any big supermarket you will see that the fruits and vegetables are still covered with a lot of single use plastic. This creates huge amounts of needless waste. The goal of this petition is to make the supermarkets of the Netherlands like Albert heijn, Jumbo and Aldi to ban unnecesary plastic packaging in their fruits and vegetables. These pictures were taken in those supermarkets.
