Save Albany Hill Park - Slated for Destruction! HELP TO STOP THE DEVASTATION!

We OPPOSE further residential development on Albany Hill.

  • Albany Hill is crucial habitat to the endangered monarch butterfly; such precious habitat is threatened with immediate destruction if residential development currently under review is approved.
  • Migratory birds, endangered species, and abundant rare plants and animals live and thrive on Albany Hill, and the City of Albany has an obligation to the public to protect the magnificent ecosystem of Albany Hill from certain devastation that would take place, should further residential development be allowed.
  • The 11-acre parcel slated for destruction has for decades been used as a City of Albany public park, with numerous improved trails and ubiquitous City of Albany signage, establishing a public easement on the entire 11-acres now the subject of a Trumark Homes residential development proposal for a few dozen, multi-million dollar homes (2400-3200 sqft), plus adjoining parking lots.
  • The specific plans under discussion with Trumark Homes are deeply contrary to the City’s mission, policies, and obligations to provide affordable housing—approving Trumark’s plan would undermine more significant initiatives to re-zone other potential affordable housing areas, such as the San Pablo corridor, for mixed residential-commercial uses (similar to Berkeley’s efforts on 4th Street and along San Pablo Avenue).
  • ALBANY HILL PARK IS AN URBAN TREASURE AND IRREPLACEABLE ECOSYSTEM -- PLEASE DO NOT PERMIT IT TO BE DESTROYED!
