The Issue

This hunting show and corresponding facebook page goes too far in promoting guns and the killing of animals, even posting photos of proud children who have just killed an animal, even a Kodiak Bear.  What kind of impression does this heartless, ignorant and careless promotion make on children?

While habitats are endangered and animal species are becoming extinct at an exponential rate, we need to teach children to respect for animals, which are an integral part of the ecological systems of the environment.  This television program and its corresponding webpage, sponsored by Browning Rifles, glorifies trophy hunting, guns and knives, showing films and footage of the heartless killing of animals and their gutting and removal of antlers, even the heart itself  of one poor elk, and a Kodiak bear after being killed by a child.  The caption of this mentioned last photo says, "XXXX, with his first Kodiak Island Brown Bear shooting Browning X-Bolt .338." Nothing on this program or page encourages any respect for the animals or the environment, yet children can easily catch an episode on TV or access the page.  Animals suffer from pain, loss of loved ones and lack of resources in the same way as humans.  Lets teach our children to love them, not to close their hearts to them, and thereby alienate themselves from humanity itself.  The level of civilization itself can be measured by its treatment of animals.  While I can respect hunting for food far more than factory farming for food, we should not be taught to exploit animals nor the environment for fun and excitement.

Too many of us are scared to speak our minds against such cold disrespect for life, because we are intimidated by the guns weilded by the perpetrators, but guns are no match against the power of the pen and the power of words.  Let's change the minds of those who kill for fun and excitement and protect our children against this alienated mindset first relinquished by the European colonialists during the conquests and subjegation of Africa, and now threatening the extinction of most large animal species.  Killing animals who have no protection against firearms is no sport - it is a sickness.
