Alan Turing - Freedom Day!
The Issue
Look at the person next to you or think about the person you last spoke with.
Think about the simple things you did today - a walk to the park with the kids, cheeky beer, coffee with a friend, matching with a new friend.....
Looks at your calendar or diary or just think of the things you plan to do tomorrow, next week, next month.....
And then imagine you can't do any of those things.... Ever again.....!
Then take 30 seconds out of your busy calendar into this journey....
Unbelievably and unbeknown, we live in a free society largely because of one man!
A man that single handed went against the grain and defied his 'superiors' and the thinking of the world.
A man that believed in freedom and doing right, at the greatest sacrifice known, at the risk of his own life.
In my opinion one of the most courageous and bravest people to fight against the Nazis!
Around the 9th July 1941 Alan Turing, his team and 'Christopher' deciphered the enigma code - a code of ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY NINE MILLION possibilities - to break Nazis communications!
That has to be close to predicting how to get hit by lightning or winning the lottery.....
This breakthrough estimated to save over TWELVE MILLION LIVES!
It took us FIFTY YEARS to recognise his 'efforts' - such a lame word for his accomplishment!
And all because he was gay!
His intelligence was hidden from our education for that simple reason.
This genius, who was the single handed brain and biggest contributing factor to us defeating the strongest regime known to date, was tortured and poisoned, rather than being knighted or even recognised for his act of bravery, long before his death!
Therefore I propose at least a national and hopefully a continental day of freedom for the man that should have been Sir Alan Turing and should definitely have been awarded the Victorian Cross, for his noble triumph.
I wouldn't be able to write this petition if it wasn't for Alan and likewise you wouldn't be able to choose the things you do day to day either, so let's make sure that today is the day that Alan and our freedom is recognised and remembered for eternity!
