Don’t let them take my home

Don’t let them take my home
The Issue
I could lose my home due to no fault of my own. Time is running out and I need your help to save what I worked so hard to build.
In 2009, I learned Jackson County, Oregon had put tax liens on my property for $65,000. As somebody who pays all their bills and taxes on time, I thought it was a mistake. I also had never received any notification saying there were liens. It turned out the co-signer of my home owned a business that had failed to pay their taxes for over a decade. Now they are coming after my home.
I was shocked. It had been years since the co-signer and I had parted ways. I never was able to get his name removed from the deed, but never imagined it could result in me losing the house. When I sought legal help I was told under no circumstances to pay. Not only was it not a debt incurred by me, it could result in me being held responsible for future taxes. I decided to stand firm and fight for my home.
I’m asking the Jackson County tax collector to stop the foreclosure on my home and go after the business’ assets. I pay my taxes and shouldn’t be punished for someone else’s debt.
Time is running out fast. I only have until October 19th, 2015 to get the situation resolved. If the Jackson County tax collector doesn’t drop the foreclosure on my home, I will lose my American dream. Since 1998, I have paid every mortgage, property tax, and insurance payment. I have invested time, money, and energy into making this house my home. To have that all taken away due to no fault of my own is unimaginable.
I didn’t know where else to turn, so I started this petition. In my heart I knew what was happening was wrong and thought if I shared my story others would join me to help save my home.
Jackson County should be going after the business’s assets and the individual behind the debt. I have proven my fiscal responsibility and proved my co-signer and I have long parted. Please join me in helping to save my home. Tell Jackson County tax collector to end the foreclosure on my home.
