Porta pottys have been installed for construction workers! Video taken 7/7/23
Please share this Save Ruby Meadow video with friends, your electeds,, anyone, to help save the last open space on the San Lorenzo Creek!
Please call your State electeds and tell them that Ruby Meadow is a CA State SB 1000 ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE PRIORITY POPULATION neighborhood!
The people were misled and bullied to shove this through during COVID despite protests from residents (~6400 signature petition). Billion dollar Eden Housing corporation cannot bulldoze 87 trees and pave this for an apartment building--we have plenty of vacant and blighted lots around here to build in. --call your State electeds, call eden housing and say NO!!, stop the destruction. Build appropriately.
People are stressed, crimes are rampant, many people in an SB 1000 population cannot travel to go into nature--we need the natural world HERE where we live. The community NEEDS this natural world for public safety and rejuvenation. Deer are born and live here along with squirrels, turkeys, fox, western red bats, fish in the creek. There used to be frogs and tadpoles. We need improvements during housing construction, not more pain. The canceled 238 freeway has devastated our neighborhood and we are waiting decades for some improvement--not more destruction! please help www.saverubymeadow.org
• Liz Ortega is the new State representative: https://a20.asmdc.org/
• Aisha Wahab is a new State Senator for Hayward: https://sd10.senate.ca.gov/contact
• Nancy Skinner is our interim State Senator because of redistricting and doesn't seem interested. Here is her number anyway (510) 286-1333
• Gov. Gavin Newson signed the SB 1000 environmental justice bill into law so the governor should care about how SB 1000 is being disregarded by Eden Housing and Alameda County. https://www.gov.ca.gov/contact/
(916) 445-2841
His staff gave me three contacts we can call:
1) Governor's Office of Planning and Research www.opr.ca.gov ---huge office, not sure who to talk to, i'm currently browsing their databases. Their data show Ruby Meadow is not an appropriate place to build apartments.
(916) 322-2318
2) CA Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment
https://www.oehha.ca.gov/ --can leave a phone message
(916) 324-7572
3) CA Environmental Protection Agency
(916) 323-2514
Go relax with the sounds and sights of nature while you can: 1473 Crescent Avenue, Castro Valley CA 94546 (the home was taken by force from the family by the State of California for the canceled 238 freeway, and then torn down instead of being offered back to the family)
The Ruby Meadow neighborhood might be a "priority population" under CA Senate Bill 1000, but it currently has NO CA STATE SENATOR to care for it! Boundaries were adjusted so that Nancy Skinner became our interim senator until next election, when the new jurisdiction will have a new senator. The San Lorenzo Creek is the Hayward border, but the creek does not divide us; it unites us--both sides should care about Saving Ruby Meadow.
• Eden Housing (510) 247-8128 won't answer other than to say "it's ours and we'll do what we want." The EH Corporation is simply skirting the law and bullying the unempowered population and will continue to as long as they have no consequences or accountability.
