Tonight 6/16/2020 at 7 PM the Hayward City Council will vote on whether or not to rezone the end of Oak Street to CG (commercial general) for a hotel, instead of building housing. Please call in to the meeting and speak up tonight.
Listen in to meeting at 7 PM (may run late) so you know when agenda item #6 (rezoning Oak St) comes up. It's on TV Comcast Channel 15 OR online meeting link https://hayward.legistar.com/Calendar.aspx
Then call in before the mayor closes public comments for the agenda item (#6 rezoning) and clerk will put you in line to speak. Meeting Clerk: 1-510-583-4400
When you are called on, state your name and then give a few points about why you don't want hotel and conclude by asking council to VOTE NO on the agenda item. Tell Hayward to keep it zoned for high density residential and then build that residential housing there, not a hotel.
The Oak Street site is part of the cancelled 238 Caltrans bypass land like Ruby Meadow is. It is zoned for high density residential and is surrounded by residential. The adjoining Castro Valley lots are part of the Alameda County Housing Element which means they should be used for housing. Hayward just tore down an apartment building there a few weeks ago in preparation for the hotel's parking lot area instead of rehabbing or rebuilding it. Parcel 9 is exactly the type of land that should be used for building new housing, NOT OUR LAST RIPARIAN HABITAT LIKE RUBY MEADOW! Save Ruby Meadow! BRIMBY (build responsibly in our backyard!).
