Install Speed Bumps On University Avenue (University of Florida)
Why this petition matters

On the evening of December 10, 2020, an 18-year-old University of Florida freshman was crossing University Avenue when she was struck and killed by a speeding vehicle. University Avenue runs adjacent to the University of Florida campus.
Just over a month later on January 16, 2021, a group of students was hit by a car which spiraled out of control onto the sidewalk after being slammed by a speeding vehicle. One student was killed, and 5 others were taken to the hospital in unknown condition.
Tragically, the deaths of two teenage students just one month apart continues a disturbing trend that goes back years, with far too many young adults having their lives inexplicably cut short by reckless drivers who treat this busy stretch of road as a drag racing strip.
The solution is simple — install speed bumps along University Avenue in areas bordering campus, and drivers will be compelled to adhere to the posted speed limit. This would be an inexpensive, yet effective solution to drastically reduce the incidence of dangerous driving that has claimed an unacceptable number of students' lives.
