Alabama Board of Massage Recorded Meetings
The Issue
As a Massage Therapist, if you feel that the Alabama Board of Massage should video record their meeting on 9/11/2023 and allow virtual live attendance, sign this Petition!
As a Consumer of Massage, if you feel that the Alabama Board of Massage should video record their meetings and allow virtual live attendance in order to provide transparency for consumer protection, sign this Petition! The Board of Massage is created for the sole purpose of protecting consumers. Therefore if you feel this board should publicly record their meetings in order to allow you, the consumer, open access to decisions made regarding safety, sign this Petition!
The meeting on 9/11/2023 will include a vote for multiple rule changes that will directly affect your career as a massage therapist. If you feel that access to viewing and hearing this meeting are important, please sign this petition!
If you feel that the board should follow statutory authority for license approvals, sign this Petition. Mr. Warren stated in an article to Lagniappe News (below) that Kristie Williams was in the minority for this request. What Mr. Warren did not explain that there have been numerous licenses issued under his management that were denied, revoked, or suspended in other states, but were easily issued a license in Alabama without a vote of the board.
Removing the Authority for the Executive Director to approve licenses without a vote of the board would not slow up the process, rather, the Legislative intent for this statutory change was to require that the board meet more frequently and clean up the mess caused by this lack of oversight.

History:
In the 2023 Legislative Session, lawmakers Amended the Massage Act to require the Alabama Board of Massage to record public meetings if a request was made 24hrs prior to the meeting.
The 3rd Party Contracted Executive Director for the Board released a Statement to Lagniappe News stated that there wasn't a definition for "record" and that the meeting minutes would meeting this requirement. This is not the interpretation from Law Makers and by refusing to record the meeting, this board is directly ignoring the additional statute created by Legislators.
