The Issue
#JusticeForMo: Demand Justice for Mohammad J. Isaifan; Murdered by Akron, Ohio PD as he was walking home. No body cams or car cams were used.
Sunday morning December 15, 2019.
While I was still sleeping this sunday morning, my Mohammad was going to the gun range. On his way to the range, my Mohammad left his car on the side of 76 because he had ran out of fuel. Callers reported seeing the car moving very slow then coming to a stop.
Police responded to the car. They claim to have found a locked gun and ammo in the trunk. They ran the plates and saw the name Mohammad. They immediately put out an APB that he could be armed and dangerous.
My Mohammad was 3 houses away from home when he was approached by akron police in an unmarked vehice.
Brief timeline
● On December 15, 2019 at approximately 9am, In the 1300 block of Brittain Road
Mohammad was shot 15 times and killed by 2 akron police officers Matthew Akers and Jamie Rea.
● Mohammad had ran out of fuel and was running home to get his gas can out of the basement.
● 3 houses away from home, he was approached by 2 Akron Police Officers with guns drawn immediately upon exiting their unmarked vehicle. No other levels of
force or de-escalation were used.
● Mohammad was sitting on the ground. He stood up and put his hands in the air. He took one shot to the chest and then proceeded to run from the officers. They shot at him over 32 times and his body took a total of 15 bullets.
● They say he appeared to pull a gun on them. However they had no body or dash cams to back it up. The family did not get to find out exactly what happened until they finally allowed his case to be made public 504 days after his death.
● They turned on body cams after killing him. Long enough to show Mohammad be cuffed so hard that his autopsy noted severe handcuff wounds.
● Mohammad was then ridiculed and harassed post mortem. He was left in a field in 15 degree temperatures with no barricades or cover of any kind. His pants
were ripped down around his ankles. Comments were made by officer Akers that "he zigged when he shouldve zagged".
● The police then ransacked his apartment after they killed him and took over 200 items of mohammads that remain in the hands of the akron police to this day.
● There is a business across the street that has a surveillance video of this incident.
● No aid was given to Mohammad for 2 minutes despite one officer saying he could hear him taking labored breaths and see blood bubbling out of his back.
● There is an eyewitness that has told the detectives from the beginning that Mohammad was no threat to these officers and that he never saw Mohammad
pull a weapon.
● This lead witness was not called before the grand jury to testify and as a result the 2 officers were cleared of any wrongdoing.
● Mohammad’s sole offspring and former wife have filed civil charges in Federal court in Cleveland, Ohio against the 2 officers involved. Mohammads family has been heavily harassed as they continue to fight for mohammads justice and truth as they will not shut up and let police brush this under the rug.
Actions and outcomes: No criminal actions have been brought against the officers. No demotions of any kind. One officer Akers remains the status of trainer. Grand jury returned a no bill for both officers. Civil charges were filed in Federal Court in Cleveland, Ohio. Case # 1:21-CV-2197
On June 23, 2024 Federal Judge David Ruiz threw out Mohammads case stating the officers were justified in killing Mohammad because he committed a misdemeanor by leaving his car on the side of the road to get fuel.
THE FAMILY HAS FIRED BACK. APPEAL HAS BEEN FILED. STAY TUNED
