Air India should accept the second name as single letter in all its website booking.

I am Gopinath T. I am a PhD student doing research in the Department of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering, Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur, Howrah, West Bengal. I am born and brought up in Chennai. In Chennai (and in most of the South India), we use father's name's first letter as our last name by default. In my case, my last name is "T" which is the abbreviation of my father's first name: "Thirunavukarasu" 

Firstly, I got an invitation to attend a conference in Vienna (13th International Conference on Diffusion in Solids and Liquids, DSL 2017). So, I wish to avail the flight services of Air India, so, I booked my tickets through Paytm (for my onward journey) and Air India website (for my return journey)! Webpages of both Paytm and Air India didn't allowed me to book my tickets in the name of "Gopinath T" which is as same as my Passport name. So, I booked my name as "Gopinath Thirunavukarasu". I also gave my passport details which states: "Gopinath T"

I contacted Air India Customer care number: 1800-180-1407 (on 31st March 2017--10:25 pm and 10:53 pm; and 1st April 2017--10:40 PM and 10:41 PM); on 31st March 2017, they said I have to cancel and rebook the tickets; on 1st April 2017, they said I have to cancel and rebook the tickets, and I may try the booking counter of Air India, Kolkata office)

I have sent two emails to: ecommerce@airindia.in, traveldocs@airindia.in; first on: Fri, 31st March 2017 at 10:52 PM and second email on: Sun, 2nd April 2017 at 1:29 AM. But none has ever replied to my emails. This is more painful!

I went today (3rd April 2017--Monday) to Air India office in Kolkata, the staffs and the duty manager said they can't change the name and I have to cancel the book and rebook. I requested them to verify my documents. They just blatantly refused my request.

Today, I have contacted Some other Travel agency, to book my tickets, even they could not book my ticket as per my name: Gopinath T which is in my Passport. And when the Travel agent contacted Air India authority even they said: they can't do that.

Today, after all my attempts to change my name in the E­Ticket Itinerary Receipt, I got only failures to convice all the booking staffs and duty managers working in Air India Kolkata Office; So, I cancelled all my tickets which incurred me irrepairable financial loss. After getting out of the office, I felt the logo of the Air India: Maharaja symbolises the people who are working without a grace for the consumer or customer who wish to take the board. As this is my 1st international travel which also gave me huge humiliation from the Air India, I started to correlate this humiliation with the past Loss making performance of Air India which is quite directly correlated to its performance.

Secondly, why Air India doesn't accept booking of the tickets in Air India through Internet Banking and debit cards for Indian Citizens? this forced me to use another person's Credit Card. Although Hon'ble Prime Minister is requesting and encouraging all the Indian Citizens to go for Internet Banking or Debit Card usage, why so it is that Air India, is avoiding intentionally the message of the Prime Minister to go for internet banking. Hope, I need to take this case and consult as an appeal from an ordinary citizen and research student of this country to Prime Minister's Office!

Thirdly, why all the flight booking to vienna are showing the price in EURO. I understand, the currency usage in Austria is Euro, but as the customer who books tickets in Air India whose principal office is in India, should principally, show the cost of the ticket in INR and also have the option of seeing the cost in other currencies.

Below is the mail which I sent to: ecommerce@airindia.in about my complaint and till date they are so so busy even to reply my email with customer centric. Please look into the mail.

I also attached all my vital documents issued by Govt of India: like, PAN Card, Aadhar Card, and Passport of mine which shows my name as: "GOPINATH T"
