AIMCO, PAUSE CONSTRUCTION AT FLAMINGO DURING COVID-19 STAY AT HOME - REFUND OUR RENT!

AIMCO, PAUSE CONSTRUCTION AT FLAMINGO DURING COVID-19 STAY AT HOME - REFUND OUR RENT!
The Issue

AIMCO, we did not agree to be unwilling participants in your COVID-19 social experiment!
We, the residents of Flamingo Point, are experiencing unnecessary daily stress and harm due to the continued construction project at Flamingo Point during this "Stay at Home" Order in Miami-Dade.
We want you to stop this daily torture and refund Flamingo residents 50% of our rent money for March and April, 2020, as compensation for the terrible conditions you are responsible for here.
The work being carried out in the midst of our huge community by AIMCO (NYSE: AIV) and Grycon Construction has been called “essential” by AIMCO in this email sent to us on March 19:
Our work on the North Tower has been deemed essential in that we are working to provide our current and future residents with one of their most basic needs: a home.
Considering that the current residents already have a home and the project is years from being completed, we find this statement to be a blatant disregard for our current well-being.
This construction project is being allowed to self-police social distancing by Miami Beach, despite the fact residents have sent many photos to management and MB City Officials showing that they incapable of doing this.
We want AIMCO to pause construction so that we can actually have some peace of mind, and peace and quiet, while we are forced to stay-at-home, and work-from-home, during a pandemic. The current callous behavior by AIMCO is subjecting us daily to terrible conditions:
1. AIMCO is increasing the exposure risk to residents and workers to the coronavirus. We have cases of COVID-19 in our Flamingo community, this is a fact. We are not given any information regarding cases among the construction crew or in the Flamingo, but several construction sites have been shut in Miami due to COVID cases. These actions create an unnecessary risk to your “tenant family” that AIMCO management pretends to care about.
2. The constant construction noise and vibrations causes economic harm to residents that now are forced to stay and work from home. We cannot focus on our work or rest when we are being blasted by construction noise 10 hours a day, 6 days a week. This is causing mental anguish and stress on the residents. There are residents who have to have daily conference calls in their bathrooms to try to avoid the noise and disturbance.
3. The North Tower construction site is not practicing real dust control and our apartments, courtyard, and terraces are coated in dust every day. We cannot even keep our windows open or enjoy fresh air here! It even stinks from the construction when we are outside on our balconies. Not only does it take away one of our few amenities that are left to us during “stay-at-home”, but exposure to small dust particles have been shown to increase risks of COVID transmission and severity.
4. AIMCO and Grycon are potentially contributing to community spread and extending and worsening the pandemic in Miami-Dade, the Florida county that is hardest hit by Coronavirus and which has one of the highest county infection rates in the United States. Residents have daily provided AIMCO and Miami Beach City Planning and Code Compliance offices with photos and videos demonstrating that workers do not social distance before, during or after work and do not consistently wear masks; and it is well established scientifically that temperature and other health checks cannot prevent asymptomatic workers from spreading the virus.
If you support our mission to keep COVID from potentially spreading further in our Miami Beach community and pause this “non-essential” construction project, then support our petition.
If you are a resident and you have evidence to share with Miami Beach City Officials about violations at Flamingo, email it to flamingopointresident@gmail.com
Or send it in a private message on the instagram channel
To the staff at AIMCO, we only ask that you treat us how you would really want to be treated if you were stuck in this situation with your families. How do these current cynical and selfish actions by your company align with the values stated in AIMCO’s investor presentations and website? This is an unprecendented health crisis effecting America, and your company cannot do the right thing?
AIMCO, AND AIMCO CEO TERRY CONSIDINE, WE ARE CALLING ON YOU TO DO THE RIGHT THING! HELP YOUR RESIDENTS!
MIAMI BEACH MAYOR DAN GELBER, CITY MANAGER JIMMY MORALES, AND ANA SALGUIERO WE ARE CALLING ON YOU TO DO THE RIGHT THING: PAUSE THE CONSTRUCTION AT FLAMINGO!
