I am writing to express my deep concern and strong opposition to the recent decision by the Surat Municipal Corporation to implement a 33% hike in residential, commercial, and industrial property tax, along with other taxes. This significant increase has caused immense financial burden and distress to the residents, business owners, and industries of Surat, and it is essential that our voices are heard.

As responsible citizens and stakeholders in Surat's development, we firmly believe that such a steep increase in property taxes and other taxes is unfair and detrimental to the economic growth and well-being of the city. This sudden escalation places an excessive burden on individuals, families, and businesses, further straining their already limited resources.

While we recognize the need for revenue to support the development and maintenance of Surat's infrastructure and public services, we strongly urge you to reconsider this decision and explore alternative methods of generating funds without imposing such a heavy financial burden on the residents and businesses.

We propose that the Surat Municipal Corporation undertakes a comprehensive evaluation of its expenditure, identifying areas where efficiency can be improved and unnecessary costs can be reduced. It is crucial to explore sustainable and equitable avenues for revenue generation, ensuring that the burden is distributed fairly among all stakeholders.

Furthermore, we request that the Surat Municipal Corporation actively engages with the residents, business owners, and industries of Surat to foster transparency, accountability, and citizen participation in decision-making processes. By involving the public in these discussions, we can collectively work towards finding viable solutions and ensuring the well-being of our city.

In light of the above, we, the undersigned residents, business owners, and industry representatives of Surat, hereby submit this petition to voice our collective opposition to the 33% hike in residential, commercial, and industrial property tax, as well as other taxes. We respectfully request the Surat Municipal Corporation to:

1. Reconsider the decision to increase residential, commercial, and industrial property tax and other taxes by 33%.
2. Conduct a thorough review of the municipal corporation's expenditure, seeking cost-saving measures and opportunities for efficiency.
3. Explore alternative methods of revenue generation that are sustainable and equitable.
4. Foster transparency, accountability, and citizen participation in decision-making processes.
