The Issue

Attending school is mandatory, yet the seniors at Nutley High School are expected to pay hundreds of dollars a year just to park when they get there. The senior lot costs $50 a month, which adds up to $500 over a ten month school year, and spots are limited, so not every student can even get one. One of the two alternatives, the gym parking lot, costs $6 a day, which comes to roughly $120 a month, or $1,200 a year. The other alternative is street parking which is also limited.

These costs are simply unrealistic for high school students and their families. Many of us live too far to walk, and we shouldn't have to choose between paying a steep fee and struggling to get to a school we're required to attend.

We are asking the district  and town to provide free parking permits for all seniors. If free is not possible, we ask that the cost be capped at no more than $20 a month, with enough spaces so that every senior who needs one can have one.

With enough signatures, we can present this matter to the board of commissioners and rectify the situation!

By signing, you're supporting fair, accessible parking for every senior at Nutley High School.

Thank you for your consideration,
