As a healthcare worker, I have witnessed firsthand the dedication and sacrifice that my colleagues and I put into providing care to others. Despite this reality, many of us struggle with exorbitant healthcare insurance costs that offer minimal coverage. This not only puts an unnecessary financial burden on our shoulders but also leaves us vulnerable in times of need.
According to a report by The Commonwealth Fund in 2020, approximately 43 million Americans were uninsured or underinsured before the COVID-19 pandemic hit. This number is likely to have increased significantly due to job losses caused by the pandemic itself. As frontline workers battling against this unprecedented crisis, we deserve better support from our healthcare system.
