Advocate for Suburban Chicago Communities to Join DuPage County

The Issue

As a concerned citizen of suburban Chicago, I've reached a breaking point in witnessing the strain Cook County is under. The county is overwhelmed with many justice-related issues and does not have the resources to adequately address the needs of all of its inhabitants. Our suburbs – Hoffman Estates, Elk Grove Village, Schaumburg, Wheeling, Prospect Heights, Arlington Heights, Elgin, Rolling Meadows, Streamwood, and Hanover Park are bearing the brunt of this crisis.

The solution that makes sense to me and many others, is for these communities to become part of DuPage County. This shift will alleviate the burden on Cook County, providing it more liberty to concentrate on pressing issues without having to stretch its resources too far. Such a change will also potentially bring a more focused and dedicated resource allocation to our suburbs.

The Census Bureau data shows that Cook County is currently the second most populous county in the United States, housing roughly 5.2 million residents in 2019 [Source: U.S Census Bureau]. A large percentage of these residents live in the suburbs mentioned, which consequently often face overlooked needs due to the sheer scale of issues present in Cook County. DuPage County, on the other hand, with a population of approximately 930,000 [Source: U.S Census Bureau], can potentially dedicate more resources and focus to these suburbs.

We need your support to bring about this much-needed change. Your signature on this petition will help amplify our voices and bring our plea to the decision-makers' attention. Sign this petition in favor of suburban Chicago communities joining DuPage County.
