Advocate for stricter penalties for harming animals

Advocate for stricter penalties for harming animals
The Issue
The loss of a cherished pet is never easy, but when that loss is avoidable, it becomes a painful reminder of the need for action. My two beloved cats, Willie and Bitty, were tragically taken from me in a senseless incident. Willie, my savior and constant companion, who would ride on my shoulder and never leave my lap, and Bitty, a mere 9-month-old with a bright future who had the intelligence and charm to fetch and play tirelessly, were both killed unnecessarily. This was not just a random accident; it happened on a clear day, 60 feet away from a stop sign with a speed limit of 35 mph. This is inexcusable, and it's time we stand up for our animals.
This tragedy struck not only at my heart but has triggered a severe PTSD response. It is unbearable to think that both of them could have been saved if only there were stricter penalties for harming animals. Imagine being able to stop in time, pretending as if you had to miss something on the road, it's very doable, very easy. Yet, the reality of my cats found 15 feet apart, in the same lifeless position, points to negligence that should not go unpunished.
We must push for a change in legislation to ensure drivers are held accountable for their actions when they harm animals on the road. By advocating for stricter penalties, we can deter careless driving and protect our beloved pets from unnecessary harm. We need a law in place that acknowledges the lives of our animals and enforces consequences for those who disregard them.
Harmonizing our legal system to recognize the value of animal life will not only save pets but will also create a safer community for all. By coming together, we have the power to create meaningful change. Let us honor Willie and Bitty’s memory by ensuring that no other pet, or pet owner, has to endure such loss and heartache.
Please join me in urging local legislators to pass a law that strengthens penalties for harming animals on our roads. Sign this petition and help make a difference for our beloved furry friends.
