Every day, I witness the heartbreaking sight of animals suffering from neglect, abuse, and cruelty in my local community. It pains me to see innocent lives subjected to heinous acts, unable to defend themselves or seek help. Animals, too, have feelings; they feel pain, fear, and suffering just like we do. This is why I want to be the voice for these animals who cannot speak up for themselves.

Current penalties for animal cruelty are woefully inadequate to deter potential offenders. By addressing animal abuse more vigorously, we have the potential to prevent related violent crimes against humans as well.

We call on our local policymakers to implement stricter penalties for animal cruelty, aligning our laws with those of states and cities that have successfully reduced instances of animal abuse. This can involve increasing fines, imposing longer prison sentences, and mandatory psychological evaluations for offenders.
