The Issue

I'm reaching out with a personal story that unfortunately reflects a broader issue affecting many families within Judson Independent School District (ISD). My niece, a bright young girl full of potential, became a victim of harassment and bullying by the very school staff trusted to guide her educational journey. Together with my mother and I, we faced demeaning behavior from the principal, vice-principal, who is the special education director. This was not just a single incident but a persistent pattern that led to my niece's declining grades. The staff's only resolution was to suggest holding her back a year.

The 'No Child Left Behind' policy seems like an unfulfilled promise in our district. Despite an investigation prompted by my circumstances, changes were not made. Things have now progressed to the principal pulling my mother to the middle of the pick up for my niece to tell her what she needed to do regarding there lack of communication to the mother my sister. They removed our access to the portal the day of a an unfortunate incident where the vice principal Talley got aggressive towards me in front of my niece causing emotional trauma. Countless other children continue to suffer in silence as I’ve seen on the very post I put on the JISD page. The systemic failures within the special needs department, and really the overall district, affect children district-wide, and we cannot stand by while these students are denied a fair and nurturing education.

It is essential to address these injustices head-on by implementing clear policies against bullying and harassment, ensuring that adequate support and resources are made available to children with special needs. Teachers and staff must receive training to foster an inclusive and supportive educational environment.

Moreover, accountability measures must be enforced to make sure that investigations into complaints are transparent and lead to meaningful changes. Parents deserve to trust that their children will thrive in a safe space.

We call upon the Judson ISD administration to take immediate action. Establish a task force that includes parents, teachers, and community advocates to oversee the special needs department's practices. By giving everyone a voice in shaping these pivotal programs, we can work towards a truly inclusive educational system.

Sign this petition to demand meaningful change within Judson ISD. Let us ensure that every child, regardless of their needs, receives the support, respect, and opportunities they deserve to flourish.
