Petition to Support SB 1081: Art Therapy Licensure in Texas

To the Texas Legislature:

We, the undersigned, strongly urge the Texas Legislature to pass SB 1081, which would establish licensure for Licensed Professional Art Therapists (LPATs) in Texas. Art therapy is a proven, evidence-based mental health profession that integrates psychotherapy and non-verbal creative expression to support individuals coping with trauma, mental illness, and other challenges.

Why Licensure Matters:

Increases Access to Care : Texans deserve access to qualified, licensed art therapists, especially in underserved communities. 

Ensures Professional Standards:  Licensure upholds ethical guidelines and protects the public by requiring proper training and credentials.

Expands Insurance Coverage:  Without licensure, art therapists cannot bill insurance, making services less accessible.

 Aligns Texas with Other States:  14 states already recognize art therapy as a distinct licensed profession and 11 more have bills in process.
