Our beloved Beagle, Cooper, came to us severely neglected and had been re-homed multiple times by just four months old. He was riddled with fleas, dangerously thin, and showed signs of aggression as a result of his past. When he lost a baby tooth at five months, his fearful look reaffirmed our bond and underlined the importance of giving vulnerable animals like him, endless love and care. Cooper's story is far too common, and such stories should not exist at all.

Every year, thousands of Beagles are used in research laboratories across all the United States of America, including Ohio. Unfortunately, when these Beagles are no longer needed, many are euthanized instead of being given a chance at a fresh start, a chance at a loving home like Cooper found. According to the American Anti-Vivisection Society, Beagles are preferred by labs due to their docile, people-pleasing nature, tragically making them prime subjects for experimental research.

Let us end this heart-wrenching practice. We implore state and federal lawmakers to enact legislation that prioritises re-homing these innocent Beagles over euthanasia once the research labs no longer need them. Each Beagle saved could become someone's Cooper, bringing immense joy and immeasurable love into people's lives.
