Growing up in Singapore, I've watched my peers and I navigate the complexities of our education system, fueled by the ambition to carve out promising futures for ourselves. As a student born in 2008, it is incredibly disheartening to witness the exclusion of our cohort from the PSEA (Post-Secondary Education Account) top-up benefits. This initiative is a stepping stone towards making education more accessible and affordable, yet a significant number of us are left behind simply due to our year of birth.

The Singaporean government established the PSEA to support educational expenses for post-secondary students, aiming to ease the financial burden on families. Unfortunately, the exclusion of students born in 2008 from the recent PSEA top-up contradicts the core mission of educational inclusivity and equitable support for all students. According to the Ministry of Education, the PSEA can make significant differences in financing education, an aspect crucial for many families.

The estimated annual costs for a student in Singapore can easily run into the thousands, and every dollar counts significantly. Therefore, I urge the Ministry of Education to reconsider this decision and extend the PSEA top-up benefits to students born in 2008. By doing so, we would be reaffirming our nation's commitment to fairness and equal opportunity in education. Extending this benefit not only supports students in need but also empowers a generation to contribute better to Singapore's future society.
