Advocate for Orkin Pest Control to Update Employee Facial Hair Policies

Advocate for Orkin Pest Control to Update Employee Facial Hair Policies
The Issue
As an ardent supporter and employee of Orkin Pest Control, I firmly believe that an outdated policy is affecting not only the workforce, but also the valuable customer-employee relationship. It was proven that men with well-groomed facial hair, be it full beards or goatees, are perceived as more trustworthy, indicating a vast potential for improving our customer relations. Yet, our current grooming policy prevents employees from tapping into this natural advantage by barring us from growing such facial hair.
Interestingly, the theory that equates professional appearance with clean-shaven faces is outdated, with no substantial evidence backing its relevance in the modern corporate world. Our skillset, determination, and commitment towards our work should define our professionalism, rather than our grooming choices. Asserting facial hair as unprofessional not only fails to acknowledge changes in societal norms but also overlooks its contributions to an employee’s sense of individuality, comfort, and dignity in their workspace.
Furthermore, it is scientifically validated that short beards or goatees do not inhibit the operation of respirators, thereby not compromising the safety standards that our line of work necessitates. As well as the production of full respirators that can work with facial hair.
Orkin is under the "Rollins" umbrella of companies. Interestingly enough, Rollins owns many pest control companies, a majority of which allow goatees or full beards. Considering these factors, it is high time Orkin Pest Control reevaluates its facial hair policy to align its values with current societal norms and facts.
By signing this petition, you will support Orkin Pest Control employees' right to grow beards or goatees, enhancing the trust among us and our customers while fostering a more inclusive workspace.
