This petition is deeply personal to us. My husband, like many others, has been subjected to an unfair situation where he was denied the choice when his two children were taken from him without any notice. Despite not being able to see his kids due to the mother making it impossible, he is still obligated to pay back child support. This has caused him significant mental anguish and financial hardships.

We believe that fathers who find themselves in such situations should be exempt from paying back child support. It's a matter not just about money but also about justice and fairness.

According to the U.S Census Bureau, there are approximately 13.6 million single parents in the United States today, and those parents are responsible for raising 22 million children (U.S Census Bureau). Unfortunately, many non-custodial parents face similar struggles as my husband due to sudden changes in custody arrangements.

We urge lawmakers to consider this issue seriously and enact legislation that provides relief for fathers who have been blindsided by unnotified custody changes. By doing so we can ensure that no one else has to endure such mental anguish or financial hardship simply because they were not given a fair chance at maintaining their parental rights or responsibilities. I feel that this should protect a fathers rights from him having to carry a financial burden when the mother chooses  to abandon the father. Everyone deserves to be happy and healthy and live within there means.
