I would like to explain a little bit more about ME / CFS of the back of a comment.
ME (Myalgic encephalomyelitis) also know as CFS is an awful debilitating disease, it affects all areas of the body. It is a long term complex condition and not cureable. This condition can affect anyone.
It can range from mild to severe. I have been diagnosed with moderate ME.
There is not one main cause of ME/CFS. Though scientists believe it's linked to trauma/serious illness (for example: glandular fever) /stress and the number has increased since COVID 19 virus (also known as post viral fatigue).
The 'best' suggestion given is to manage the symptoms - with pacing, I have been in the programme for pacing, whilst it is has been proven to be effective with people, and establishing a baseline energy level, I feel more can be done. I have had this condition since 2023 and I am still struggling. Some days I am bed bound due to sheer exhaustion and other days I am very limited to what I can do. I know for some people all they can do is sleep.
The main and most common symptom is extreme fatigue (even after sleeping you feel unrested)
Then there is the multitude of other symptoms that come with it, you don't have to experience them all.
- Flu like symptoms (even though you have no virus)
- Stiff and achy muscles
- Sleep disturbances during the night
- Insomina
- Feel lethargic throughout the day
Cognitive issues (or referred to as brain fog)
- Problems with memory/words can't remember things
- Can't find the right words to use
- Concentration and focus all over the place (or lack of)
- Short term memory issues
Other symptoms
- Headaches
- Joint pain
- Dizzy spells
- Sensitive to sounds / lights
- The inability to regulate your body temperature
Any form of exertion (physical or mental) can exacabate symptoms also know as post exersion. melaise.
I have experienced/experience most of these symptoms, it's taken me an hour to write this post.
I hope this explains a little bit more about ME and why I feel that combined pacing with nurostimulants may be a way forward.
