Advocate for Fair Pay and Benefits for Home Support Workers in Newfoundland and Labrador

The Issue

Home support workers in Newfoundland and Labrador fulfill an essential role in our healthcare sector, yet they often do not receive compensation reflective of the critical services they provide. This petition seeks to rally the support of communities throughout Newfoundland and Labrador to lobby for the adequate pay, benefits, and pension plan home support workers rightly deserve. The upcoming collective agreement presents an excellent opportunity to push for this overdue change. By recognizing homecare as an essential service, we can ensure these workers receive fair treatment and adequate compensation. In 2019, over 30,000 residents relied on homecare and this number is expected to each over 60,000 by 2030 indicating the increasing importance of this sector (Statistics Newfoundland and Labrador). It is thus urgently necessary to present our concerns and proposed solutions to the union and possibly the government to ensure that homecare workers are respected and rewarded for their integral role in our society. Please show your support by signing this petition. Together, we can call for fairness and justice for our home support workers.
