As a father who shares 50/50 custody of his son, the current child support regulations leave me in a state of confusion and financial strain. With equal parenting time, I fail to understand the necessity of my hefty payments into a system that lacks transparency around fund usage. So far, I have paid over $10,000 in child support, with projected contributions exceeding $50,000. This financial burden seems unjust and counterproductive, and it begs the question - how are these funds benefiting my son's future?

This is not an isolated issue. Many parents across the nation share similar experiences. Hence, why it is imperative to reform our child support system. This petition calls for a mandate ensuring no child support payments for parents with 50/50 custody. Additionally, we need appropriate tracking of child support fund spending. This will be achieved through shared accounts, allowing both parents to contribute to and monitor their child's financial support.

As a further enhancement, from the age of 12, a percentage of the funds will be allocated directly to the child, while the remainder is stored within a high yield savings account or an investment account. When the child turns 18, they would then gain full access to the child support payments and savings. This concept nurtures financial responsibility, while also ensuring that these funds are indeed contributing towards the child's future.
