I am a transgender woman, and I know firsthand how it feels to be sidelined and treated as less than others by many in society. Across the globe, over 25% of transgender people face bias-driven assault, and many are denied their fundamental human rights (National Center for Transgender Equality, 2021). This puts them at an alarming rate for experiencing depression and committing suicide. We cannot remain complacent and allow this injustice to continue. We owe ourselves and future generations a world that is fair and just for all its inhabitants, regardless of their gender identity. It's time our laws and societal norms recognize and protect trans individuals. It is time we fight for trans rights not just as a call for equality, but as a matter of life and death.
