I have lived the harsh reality of discrimination. From my early years in elementary school, I suffered from bullying and bias due to my personality, and it is an experience familiar to too many within the LGBTQ+ community. Discrimination has detrimental effects on the mental and physical health, leading to higher rates of psychiatric disorders, substance abuse, and suicide among the LGBTQ+ community compared to the heterosexual population (Source: HealthData.org).

Furthermore, the National School Climate Survey of 2017 revealed that 70.1% of LGBTQ+ students reported being verbally harassed at school because of their sexual orientation (Source: GLSEN's National School Climate Survey). These statistics are a stark reminder of the persistent discrimination faced by so many people on a daily basis.

It's high time we advocate for enhanced LGBTQ+ community support. We must pressure our legislators to create and enforce laws that protect the LGBTQ+ individuals from discriminatory practices. Additionally, we need to implement a comprehensive LGBTQ+ inclusive curriculum in schools to promote understanding and empathy, which will help to combat prejudice and discrimination.
