Advocate for Dog-Friendly Designation at Veterans Park in Miami Lakes

The Issue

As a regular visitor of Veterans Park in Miami Lakes, I, alongside many in our community, have noticed the increasing number of dogs brought to the park by their owners. This is a testament to the love and companionship that these pets bring, and their positive impact on the atmosphere of our beloved park. However, current regulations do not formally allow dogs in the park, leaving many of us in a grey area and potentially subject to penalties. My friends and I have been visiting this park every Thursday with our daughters and some of us bring our dogs along. Dogs have been a part of our get-together, and we'd like to be able to continue this practice within proper guidelines.

Our request to the City of Miami Lakes is simple: designate specific areas for dogs inside Veterans Park, located at 15151 NW 82nd Ave, Miami Lakes, FL 33016, and educate the public about proper care and etiquette when bringing pets to the park. This not only strengthens community ties but also promotes responsible pet ownership. According to a study done by the Center for Disease Control, regular walking or playing with pets can decrease blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and provide more opportunities for exercise and outdoor activities. (CDC, 2020)

Allowing dogs to venture into these areas officially, with appropriate rules and signage, will formalize what is already happening daily at the park and build a healthier, happier, and more inclusive community. Please sign this petition to show your support for a dog-friendly Veterans Park in Miami Lakes.
