The Issue

Did you know that Black students are 4 times more likely to experience suspension than their white peers? Racism in schools can be an ignored phenomenon in everyday life, especially in school systems, which can negatively impact students' mental and emotional health.  We plan to change this matter with our goal of advocating for the Massachusetts Department of Education to allocate funding from the state education budget to provide anti-racism professional development to Massachusetts teachers so that teachers can better support a diverse learning environment and integrate anti-racism instruction within their curriculum. Achieving this goal will provide learning environments where students of color feel safer in their own bodies and schools, support identity development, and all students will gain an understanding of the impact system racism has on identity development. Please help us reach our goal by signing this petition.
