Advocate for a Pollution-Free Delhi and University
The Issue
Inquilab Zindabaad!
Delhi University - a place for the free exchange of thoughts, knowledge, and ideas now stands choked, clouded in a haze of dust, toxins, and uncertainties.
As residents of Delhi and affiliates of Delhi University, we are directly affected by the increasing pollution levels. Our friends, family, and colleagues, even the local flora and fauna, are suffering the crushing impact of constant exposure to unhealthy levels of air and water pollution. It is not unusual for our loved ones to constantly fall ill or battle serious medical conditions stemming from an unhealthy environment. It's a painful struggle we witness day by day; a struggle against an invisible, relentless enemy - pollution.
To substantiate our concerns, a 2020 IQAir report ranked Delhi as the "most polluted capital city in the world." In the cold winter months, the air pollution in our city becomes palpably harmful; the Air Quality Index (AQI) frequently crosses the 'severe' limit of 400, causing the sky to darken with a toxic smog. This scenario turns our daily activities into Herculean tasks and fills our lives with the dread of potential health hazards such as allergies, asthma, and other respiratory disorders.
Moreover, the rampant pollution isn't just an individual health crisis, it has started to affect academia's sanctity. It's evident that a clean, sustainable environment is a necessity, not a luxury, for a thriving academic environment.
In such a situation, we urge the local government, environmental bodies, and citizens alike to take immediate and stringent measures to curtail pollution in our beloved city and university. Our plea is for a 'Pollution-Free Delhi' and a 'Pradushan Mukt Delhi Vishwavidyalaya' that will safeguard our health, our future, and the diverse ecosystem we dwell in from further harm.
Our environment is our legacy, and it’s time we claim it back. We urge you to sign this petition to voice your support for a pollution-free Delhi and university. Your signature can be the catalyst for a cleaner, healthier, and thriving city we call home.
