There's a feeling many people in the LGBTQ+ community know well: the sense of isolation and the struggle with coming out. I know this experience firsthand as a lesbian myself. The lack of representation I saw growing up made my journey even tougher, and it is something no child should go through. 

Disney has been a leading force in children's entertainment, reaching millions globally. However, in over 80 years of Disney princess films, there is yet to be a lesbian main character. We are calling on Disney to take a pioneering step by incorporating the first lesbian Disney princess to represent the LGBTQ+ community and break down the historic stigmas against gay people.

Disney's movies have a substantial cultural impact and the power to shape perceptions from a young age. Incorporating a lesbian princess would send a powerful message, promoting acceptance and understanding to its young viewers. It would prove to millions that anyone, regardless of sexual orientation, can be a princess.

According to a study by GLAAD in 2019, 20% of Americans aged 18-34 identify as LGBTQ+. Yet, in that same year, only 18.6% of the film industry's highest-grossing films included LGBTQ+ characters. Our children's films should reflect the world they live in and specifically target the harmful stigmas that make coming out such a struggle.
