The Issue

We are Immigrant Justice Workers United, a dedicated group of legal professionals who are part of the NOLSW 2320 Union and who are currently negotiating a Collective Bargaining Agreement with the National Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC). Our union membership, consisting of attorneys, paralegals, receptionists and coordinators, work tirelessly on the front lines of immigrant rights advocacy. We are fighting for a say in our workplace and livable wages.

As one of the largest immigration non-profits in the Chicago area, NIJC is known for its crucial role in supporting vulnerable communities in and around the city. Yet, it has historically paid wages below those offered at similar organizations. We are passionate about NIJC’s mission, but our wages have made it increasingly difficult to support ourselves in Chicago. Additionally, we want a contract that protects our ability to provide input and bargain over major changes at NIJC. As the workers providing frontline support for immigrants, we possess useful insight that can benefit the organization. Management has repeatedly rejected our proposals, but we are hoping to finalize a contract that protects both our pay and our voices.

Stand in solidarity with us as we advocate for a fair union contract. Please sign this petition to urge the leadership of NIJC to work with our union to achieve a contract that provides fair pay and protects employees’ right to have input in the workplace. We greatly appreciate your support!
