Advocate Christianity as the Foundation Faith of the UK

The Issue

As a practicing and devoted Christian, I feel increasingly marginalised in my own country, the United Kingdom. Recently, it certainly appears that our foundational faith, Christianity, is being gradually compromised. The essence of my belief system seems increasingly neglected and overrun by the push for absolute equality across other faiths. It is critically important to stress that this is not about denouncing other faiths or decreasing their freedom of expression. Rather, it is about ensuring the UK Government recognises Christianity as the foundational faith stance of the UK, and legislates accordingly without compromising its place.

Christianity has been historically significant and its influence can be traced across centuries. It has shaped our way of life, morals and decisions in countless ways. In fact, the 2001 UK Census reported that over 72% of the UK population identified as Christian (source - Office for National Statistics). It is essential that such a core historical and contemporary part of our societal structure is not undervalued or neglected.

The call of this petition is simple. I am asking that the UK Government acknowledge Christianity as the principle faith that has shaped and continues to shape the UK. While other faiths should certainly be treated with respect and have freedom for their expression, this should not require compromising the foundational faith of our country. Sign this petition to ensure that Christianity is acknowledged and protected as the primary faith of the UK, and legislated accordingly.
