Des Moines, known for its strong community spirit and inclusivity, is now faced with discriminatory amended laws that threaten the harmony of our society. LGBT+ organizations within our city are being unjustly targeted, their rights marginalized, and their voices silenced. It's a step backward from our state's progress – Iowa was the fourth state in the U.S to legalize same-sex marriage back in 2009 (source: Iowa Supreme Court). Yet, more than a decade later, we are faced with the threat of regressing.

It is our responsibility to stand up against this inequality, uphold the values of tolerance, liberty, and justice, and support our local LGBTQ+ organizations. Let's send a strong message to those Republicans and the discriminative Governor Kimberly Reynolds who are undermining the LGBTQ+ communities and our Transgender Rights to be who we truly are as human beings with Human Rights. We urge our local communities and allies to intervene, rectify these discriminatory laws, and reestablish Des Moines as an LGBTQ+ and Human Rights friendly city.
