The Issue

There is a crisis. A mental health crisis that is spiraling out of control across the world, we the people need HELP. With the mental health services being terribly overwhelmed and very slow to get people the help they need, we need alternative help. There is a way, we are being fed too many pharmaceutical drugs, drugs that are addictive and have some nasty side effects. In this modern western world we have lost our ability to heal naturally with natural ingredients. Using natural products such as Psilocybin for a plethora of different mental health issues could potentially save lives and could be very cost effective.

NOTE.. When talking Psilocybin i am not talking of taking major doses to induce a psychedelic trip.

Psilocybin binds to the seretonin receptors in the brain and produces a physiological effect.

The serotonin receptor (5-HT2A) plays a key role in regulating mood, sexual behavior, aggression, impulsivity, cognitive function, appetite, pain, thermoregulation, circadian rhythm, sleep and memory.

If used correctly and in small doses, Psilocybin produces amazing results in uplifting peoples depressive moods and increases concentration whilst giving them the kick start they need to enjoy life again.

Below are a few facts that i would like to highlight:

  • Patients diagnosed with major depressive disorder took two doses of psilocybin, the hallucinogenic compound found in magic mushrooms.

  • At the start of the trial patients averaged a score of 23 on a scale indicating moderate to severe depression.
  •
One week and four weeks post-treatment, the average score was eight, indicating mild depression.

  • Two-thirds of patients saw a 71% reduction in symptoms such as sadness and pessimism at the four-week follow-up.

  • Four weeks following treatment, 54% of patients were considered to be in remission, meaning they no longer qualified as being depressed.

  • Oregon became the first state in the country to legalize psilocybin after voting to decriminalize the use of magic mushrooms on Tuesday 10/11/2020.

Below are a list of side effects of one of the most commonly prescribed anti depressants in the UK. These common side effects happen in more than 1 in 100 people.

Nausea, headaches, Insomnia, Fatigue, Diarrhea, Dry mouth, Trouble focusing, memory problems, not thinking clearly, weakness, seizures, or losing your balance (these can be signs of low sodium levels), thoughts about harming yourself or ending your life, fits, feelings of euphoria, excessive enthusiasm or excitement, or a feeling of restlessness that means you cannot sit or stand still, yellow skin or the whites of your eyes turn yellow (this can be a sign of liver problems), vomiting blood or dark vomit, coughing up blood, blood in your pee, black or red stools (these can be signs of bleeding from the gut), bleeding from the gums or bruises that appear without a reason or that get bigger.

I believe with the right guidance and counselling whilst micro dosing Psilocybin would be far more beneficial to our health physically and mentally.

I believe putting a natural growing product in the same class as heroin, crack cocaine and crystal meth is preposterous, especially when the likes of alcohol is legal. Alcohol costs the UK economy between 27bn-52bn a year.

Please consider legalizing Psilocybin to a medicinal level that can be acquired by prescription under the care of the local general practitioner and mental health team.
