Hello Petition allies,
Our petition, with your signatures, has been delivered to the president & CEO of Adventist Health, Scott Reiner.
Since it started circulating, I have had in-depth communication with those in leadership about what their policy will be. That is the good news. The unfortunate news is that, as it stands now, I am not hopeful that Adventist Health will be prohibiting its affiliated doctors from participating in assisted suicide. And it is the doctors that make all of the difference, since legal suicide can only happen if a doctor writes a prescription for the lethal drugs.
And without a written policy prohibiting participation, any doctor contracting with Adventist Health is free to offer assisted suicide as soon as the law goes into effect--which is scheduled to be THIS THURSDAY (June 9).
I also have not received a commitment regarding the other items that we ask for in the petition, including that a PUBLIC policy will be issued. A public policy is essential for us as community members to know what the policies actually are and to have a basis for holding Adventist Health professionals accountable. It is my hope that such a policy will be readily available on the internet.
While we continue to collect signatures, I suggest that you also make direct contact with the Adventist Health leadership and ask them to do everything they can to protect their patients. Below is a link to the corporate leadership board. The only contact information I have found is for the president's assistant, Christine Tua: tuacj@ah.org
