Adultery should be crime Not personal matter
The Issue

Since the landmark Joseph Shine judgment in 2018, adultery is no longer recognized as a criminal offence in India. While this changed the legal framework, it left a massive, unprotected vacuum for families. Currently, the aggrieved spouse only has one legal remedy: seeking a divorce.
Divorce is not justice against adultery it's merely separation; it is simply the end of a marriage. Adultery leaves the psychological and emotional trauma completely unaddressed, while National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data continuously highlights the alarming rise in violent crimes stemming from unresolved marital infidelity disputes. Over 1500+ murders and 1200+ suicides are recorded by NCRB over the cause of illicit relationship. So adultery isn't a private matter it's alarming issue.
The Milestone:
We have successfully engaged the highest levels of governance. In response to a formal representation, the Ministry of Law and Justice has officially forwarded this issue to the statutory advisory body. File No. 27(09)/2026-Leg.III (dated 13.10.2026) is now officially pending before the Law Commission of India.
Our Demand:
We demand the enactment of a comprehensive, gender-neutral law that establishes strict punitive accountability and civil statutory remedies for marital infidelity, protecting the mental well-being and structural integrity of families. Accountability must apply equally to both spouses and any third-party facilitators.
We have the government's attention. Now, we need the public numbers to ensure the Law Commission prioritizes this file. Please sign, share, and stand up for structural accountability in Indian family law.
